Mt. Calvary Cemetery, or my nearest park

Although Mt. Calvary is a privately-owned cemetery, and thus not officially on Richmond's list of public green spaces, the space is very park-like and I consider it the closest park to me.

This cemetery covers many acres and has meandering, path-like roads curving gracefully beside sections of headstones. Vehicles driving through are few and far-between, but if a pedestrian visitor doesn't want to have to listen out for potential cars, there are sidewalks cutting through certain portions of the cemetery layout.

Trees and shrubs are dispersed throughout the landscape, adding visual interest and shade (as well as some protection from rain). The grass of the grounds is maintained by a lawn care company. One of the most park-like features of Mt. Calvary is just behind the entrance landscaping, where a vast swath of grass -- where no apparent burials have been done (at least yet) -- welcomes potential picnickers, frisbee-throwers, and dog-walkers to stay awhile. The cemetery functions almost like a dog park for me: as it is usually free of other dog-walkers, I can bring my reactive dog to an area where she can stretch her legs.

(A much sunnier & warmer time of year!)
